All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Guy Potts http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00017.html#0004214 September 9, 2020, 3:10 pm Written: 1765 Bertie County, NC Register of Deeds Bk L, pg 16 Indenture made May 1, 1765 between Samuel Lewis of Bertie Co, NC Mariner and Jasper Carlton of Chowan Co, NC Attorney at Law, for 5 shillings Sterling money land in Bertie on the Cashie River called Barwicks Island adjacent to John Herrings former line containing 150 acres; also 150 acres lying on the east side of Cachie River adjacent to John Grays line, mouth of the Licking Branch, Edward Moss line excepting out of said tract 33 acres conveyed by Samuel Lewis to Nathaniel Knott said land conveyed by John Herring and Rebecca his wife to Joseph Hardy and by said Joseph Hardy and Elizabeth his wife to the aforesaid Samuel Lewis by their deed dated October 6, 1760. Witnesseth that the said Jasper Carlton may be in possession of the said land hereby bargained and sold and be thereby unable to accept and take a grant and release of the reversion and inheritance thereof to him his heirs and there Samuel Lewis for himself and his heirs doth covenant promise and agree to and with the said Carlton his heirs by these present the said Samuel Lewis before mentioned two several tracts unto Jasper Charlton free and clear from the demand, lawfull claim of all and every persons whatsoever. Witnesses: John Johnston and W Churton Registered: March Court 1766 Bertie County, NC Register of Deeds Bk L, pg 15 Indenture made May 2, 1765 between Samuel Lewis of Bertie Co, NC and Jasper Charlton of Chowan Co, NC, for 350 pounds land in Bertie lying on Cashy River called Barwicks Island at the Newfound Landing on said river adjacent to John Herring line, Cashia River containing 150 acres; also 150 acres lying on the east side of Cashia River, mouth of Licking Branch, Edward Moris line excepting 33 acres sold by said Samuel Lewis to one Nathaniel Knott.
