William Chalk, enlisted Dec 29, 1776 for 3 years, Private, First Regiment, 
Sergeant, March 1780. vol. 16, p. 1025, vol. 15, p. 726, State Records of 
North Carolina, page 6, War Department, Adjutant General's Office, 
Washington, D.C. Member of Capt. Tatum's Company of the First North Carolina 
Battalion, commanded by Colonel Thomas Clark.
 
William Chalk married Peggy Askew. He was born in England and died at sea.
 
Their son: William (Jr.) Chalk was born in Hertford Co. NC. c. 1784. William 
Chalk Jr. married Elizabeth Williams, b. Hertford Co., NC. They both died in 
Maury Co. Tennessee.
