Hertford County, NC - The Landmark Newspaper, 1882 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Landmark Newspaper, Statesville, NC 10-13-1882 W.J. Munden, the Republican member of Legislature from Hertford county, who stole the wife and money of J.A. Johnson, of that county, and ran away, about a year ago, and who was caught in Arkansas and brought back; who escaped from Hertford jail, and was re-captured, was tried in the Superior Court of Chowan week before last, convicted and sentenced to 10 years in the Penitentiary.
