Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with Wright Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were: Larry Kitchen, Vance Kitchen, Edward Grissom, Preston Grissom, Richard Baker Jr., Thomas Britt, Charlie Saunders and Ernest Wilson. Mrs. Baker died Friday night in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Hertford County, N.C., she graduated from East Carolina University and started teaching English in the Haroldsville, N.C. school system in 1932. Mrs. Baker taught French, English and Latin at Courtland High School for 15 years beginning in 1945. She taught eight years at Brunswick Academy in Lawrenceville and three years at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in Suffolk. She retired in 1971. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. Survivors include a daughter Lilly Gray B. Ketner of North Augusta, S.C.; a son, C.C. Baker Jr. of Courtland; two sisters, Mrs. Cornelia G. Gordon of Rocky Mount, N.C. and Adiline G. Kitchen of Courtland; and a brother, J. Lineberry Grissom of Courtland.
