Barnes, died at her home in the Sunbeam community Tuesday morning following an illness of two years. Mrs. Barnes was 86 years of age, and is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Randolph Bonniville of Miami, Florida, Miss Emily Barnes who teaches in Richmond, Mrs. S.T. Saunders, Misses Norma and Marion Barnes and a son, Garnet Barnes all of Sunbeam. Mrs. Barnes was born and reared in this county, a member of a well-known family, and numbered a wide circle of friends throughout her home community. She was a consistent member of Buckhorn Baptist Church where her husband was senior deacon for many years. Mr. Barnes being a gallant Confederate soldier and a man of prominence in his community and church. Genuine, old-fashioned hospitality prevailed in their home where courtesy, kindliness and a hearty welcome for every visitor made an ideal setting for the happy home life which obtained there during their many years of wedded life. Funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon in the presence of many friends and relatives, conducted by Rev. W.B. Denson, pastor of Beaver Dam Church, assisted by Rev. N.B. Foushee of Sunbeam. Favorite hymns of Mrs. Barnes were sung and the pallbearers were: J.B. Worrell, H. McD. Spiers, Roswell Hart, Rosser Bryant, W.E. Beale, J.V. Simmons, C.R. Everett and Cyrus Worrell of Norfolk. Burial was made in the family cemetery at the old homestead near Como.
