SALLIE MARGARET GARRIS BESS

   CHESAPEAKE – A funeral service for Sallie Garris Bess, 92, will be held 
Saturday at 1 p.m. in Murfreesboro Baptist Church by the Revs. Thomas Caulkins 
and J.W. Wetherington. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with Garrett Funeral 
Home in charge.

   Mrs. Bess died Tuesday in Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach.

   A native of Hertford County, she was the widow of Dennis C. Bess and a member 
of Murfreesboro Baptist Church.

   Survivors include a daughter, Lessie Sawyer of Chesapeake, five sons, Russell 
Bess and Earl Bess, both of Franklin, Vernon C. Bess of Chesapeake, Lonnie Bess 
of Suffolk and Jesse Bess of Norfolk; two sisters, Carrie Burham of Portsmouth 
and Grace A. Hill of Largo, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and 
4 great-great-grandchildren.
