He was the son of Gordon and Charlotte Myrick Brett. “Little Reed,” as he was called by many of his friends, was very cheerful and animated, ever willing and trying to help. Although from his birth he had been in ill health, he never faltered until the end came. His little heart failed to function and he passed on to a land where there is no suffering. He leaves to mourn their loss his parents; one brother, Jarvis; two devoted grandmothers and other relatives. His body was laid to rest in the father’s family burying ground. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. F. L. Baker. The flowers were exceedingly beautiful and numerous. A large concourse of friends gathered for the last rites. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Active pallbearers were Richard and Russell Railey, Ralph and Harry Barrett, Stanley Myrick and V.D. Thorpe, Jr. “Sleep on dear one and take thy rest, Though sad the parting, it may be best.” - A friend.
