He was the son of the late John D. and Agnes Pond Brett, of Hertford County, He was member of the New Hope M.E. Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ina Cross Brett; four sisters, Miss Alice Brett, Miss Ida Brett, Mrs. W.H. Norfleet and Mrs. J.C. Norfleet, all of Franklin, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were conducted from New Hope Church this afternoon at 3 o’clock by his pastor, the Rev. F.L. Baker of Newsoms. Burial took place in Murfreesboro cemetery, pallbearers being Julian Hayes Brett, Deans Brett, John Norfleet, C.W. Cross, H.C. Cross and Chas. V. Cross. Members of his Sunday school class were honorary pallbearers.
