JOHN BRUCE BREWER

   Friends in Franklin will regret to hear of the death of Prof. John B. 
Brewer which occurred June 20 at Yohnalossee near Blowing Rock, N.C.   Mr. 
Brewer is well remembered by our people as Principal of the Franklin Seminary 
here for a number of years, and he had also served as President of Averett 
College, Danville, and Chowan College, Murfreesboro, N.C.  Mr. Brewer was 83 
years of age, of a prominent North Carolina family, and was a member of 
Company K, 71st North Carolina Regiment, in the War Between the States. Mrs. 
Brewer died a few years ago and he had made his home in Rockingham, N.C., with 
his daughter, Mrs. Claude Gore. Interment was held in the family burial plot 
in the cemetery at Wake Forest, N.C., last Friday.
