THOS R BORLAND       The funeral of the late Hon Thomas R Borland was solemnized from Christ Episcopal Church at noon yesterday, and was attended by a large concourse, representing citizens of every walk in life. The Bar of Norfolk, Business Men's Association and Pickett-Buchanan Camp of Confederate Veterans, of which organizations the deceased was a member, attending the obsequies in a body.       On the countenances of all present a deep sadness was depicted indicative of the great sorrow at the loss of so upright and valuable citizen.       The beautiful and impressive burial service of the Episcopal Church was conducted by the rector, Rev Dr Carl E Grammer, assisted by Rev B D Tucker,D D of St Paul's Church and Rev John H Dickson assistant rector of Christ Church. During the service the hymns, "Thou Knoweth Lord", and "Lead, Kindly Light" were sung by the choir, and as the casket was being borne from the edifice the hymn "Tarry With Me, Oh, My Soul." was sweetly an softly rendered by the choir. The remains were conveyed to Elmwood Cemetery, followed by a lengthily cortege, where they were committed to mother earth to await the resurrection of the just. Following were the pall-bearers:       Active Judge Allen R Hankel, Jas E Heath, Jr,, Milton W Talbot, J H Walker, Wm H White, R B Cooke, M T Cooke, T F Ferguson, Richard Walke, Judge James F Crocker, Judge W B Martin, and Judge D Tucker Brooke. Additional Comments: Thomas Roscius BORLAND was born 3 March 1844 in Murfreesboro, N C to Temperence (Ramsey) and Roscius Cicero BORLAND, fourth and last child. He was orpahned in late 1845, raised by his father's aunt & uncle Fanny (Green) and George GODWIN with "Miss Betsy" in Suffolk, Virginia. Served in Company K, 9th Virginia Infantry, Barton Brigade, Picketts Division during Civil War, schooled at Univ of Virginia, married twice, bore six children, lived in Norfolk since graduating from college, traced six generations to the old emigrant, Captain Thomas GODWIN, who served the House of Burgess in 1652 and earlier.
