EUGENE ERNEST CARTER

   Funeral services for Eugene Ernest Carter, 68, who died Monday afternoon, 
August 15, in the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital at Ahoskie, N.C., following several 
weeks of declining health, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the 
Murfreesboro Baptist Church, with Rev. Warren F. Taylor, the pastor, 
officiating, assisted by Rev. J.M. Duncan, pastor of the Meherrin Baptist 
Church, and Rev. Lonnie L. Sasser, pastor of the Conway Baptist Church. Burial 
was in Riverside Cemetery at Murfreesboro.

   Mr. Carter was the son of the late Pitus Carter and Virginia Vick Carter of 
Southampton County. Moving to Murfreesboro 17 years ago, he was a member of the 
Murfreesboro Baptist Church. He engaged in farming for 40 years.

   He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janie Blow Carter; three daughters, Mrs. 
Lewis White of Pollocksville, N.C., Mrs. William Britt of Murfreesboro, N.C. and 
Mrs. E.C. Bryan of Carolina Beach, N.C.; three sons, Roger L. Carter and 
Norfleet W. Carter of Kinston, N.C. and James P. Carter of Boykins. He also 
leaves 12 grandchildren.
