ELLA JOYNER COOKE

   Mrs. Ella Joyner Cooke, aged 74, of Richmond and Courtland, died early 
Tuesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John W. Wright, of Richmond, 
after a brief illness.

   She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bridgeman Joyner, who moved 
from Southampton County to Hertford County, North Carolina. She was an active 
member of Courtland Baptist Church until she moved to Richmond.

   Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L.R. Vaughan of Murfreesboro, N.C.; and 
Mrs. Wright; three sons, Charlie S. Cooke of Murfreesboro; Guy P. Cooke of 
Maple, N.C., and Samuel D. Cooke, U.S. Army stationed at Miami, Fla.; 11 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

   Services were conducted from the Holland Funeral Home here Wednesday 
afternoon at 3 o’clock by the Rev. R. D. Stephenson, burial following in Poplar 
Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were: C.C. Vaughan, 3rd, Harry Hassett, A.B. Cobb, 
C.W. Davis, L.M. Manry, Dr. E.F. Reese, Fred Barker and Herman Beale.
