Mr. Darden was born January 25, 1866, at Mapleton, N.C., the son of the late Alfred M. and Mrs. Elizabeth Holley Darden. In 1888 he joined the Navy where he served until after the World War. As a petty officer in the Navy and spending most of his time aboard ship, he had visited practically every country in the world, and went around the world with the U.S. fleet in 1907-’08 on the good- will tour inaugurated by President Theodore Roosevelt. He served on the U.S. Ship “Leviathan,” for four years as a civilian employee. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Darden and two children, C.G. and Mary, and by four brothers, Colgate W. Darden of Franklin, J.H. Darden of Mapleton, N.C., W.H. Darden of Windsor, N.C., and A.C. Darden of Newport News.
