She was the widow of Edward Vance Grissom. The deceased was a native of Harrellsville, Hertford County, N.C., the daughter of the late John Harrell and Martha Anne Wiggins Modlin. She was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church and its Woman’s Missionary Union. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. R.B. Gordon of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Mrs. James U. Kitchen and Mrs. C.C. Baker of Courtland; three sons, Reuben E. Grissom of South Norfolk and Vance D. and Lineberry Grissom of Courtland; eight grandchildren; three brothers, J.K. Modlin of Harrellsville, N.C., G.N. Modlin of Lewiston, N.C., and R.Q. Modlin of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Monton of Palmyra and Mrs. Emma Barnes of Roxobel, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral rites for Mrs. Grissom were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Courtland Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. L.M. Kanipe, Rev. N.L. Blythe and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, with burial in the Courtland cemetery. The active pallbearers were Stanley Modlin, Percy Minton, Bruce Myers, Oscar Modlin, Raymond Barnes, Clellan Catlett, Linwood Mitchell and Hilton Modlin. *Born in Gates County, N.C.
