Hugh Powell of Boykins Saturday afternoon, conducted by her Pastor, Rev. Frank B. Handley, assisted by Rev. R.L. Haga. Mrs. Grizzard, who was Miss Belle Gardner, was born in the Murfreesboro community, where she attended Chowan College. Her family moved to Boykins in her early life and later she married J.T. Barnes, who died in 1909. Her second marriage to Floyd Vinson took place in 1922, who died a few years ago. She was a loyal and consistent member of the Boykins Baptist Church, an active member of the T.E.L. class and other organizations of the church. In February of this year she married J.J. Grizzard of Branchville who survived her, besides one son, Elmo Barnes of Como; three sisters, Mrs. R.W. Wilcox of Boykins, Mrs. W.T. Taylor and Mrs. Eva Taylor of Como; four brothers, Dr. Jesse Gardner of Suffolk, Dr. Robert Gardner of Baltimore, Baldwin Gardner of Raleigh and Jim Gardner of Oklahoma, besides a number of nieces and nephews. Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery, the choirs of the Boykins churches furnishing music. Active pallbearers were: John M. Britt, W. Hugh Powell, B.F. Britt, W.F. McKinstry, R.C. Knight, L.O. Tyler of Branchville, R.S. Edwards and H.G. Coleman. Honorary pallbearers were selected from a large number of friends of the family.
