HOWELL HILL After a lingering illness of several months, the soul of Mrs. Gattie E. Hill of Como, N.C., took its flight to her God. A consistent member of Buckhorn Baptist Church from her girlhood, she was true, loyal and devoted to her church until the last. A host of friends can testify to her worth in this community. She carried out the Scripture as recorded by James, “I will show thee my faith by my works.” Truly she demonstrated her faith by her activities in every Christian endeavor, visiting the sick, and ministering to their wants in all walks of life. For years whenever any of her neighbors were in distress due to sickness, Mrs. Hill was the one they desired to assist around the beside of their loved ones. She had almost lived out her three score and ten years when the summons came to release her spirit from her pain-stricken body. She was laid to rest in the cemetery of old Buckhorn Church, the funeral being conducted by her Pastor, Rev. J.L. Price, assisted by one of her former pastor, Rev. L.E. Daily. Tributes by them were appropriate and beautiful. A large concourse of people was present to show their appreciation of her life. The body bearers were: Ferrell and William Hill, her grandsons; Thomas Bowles, Jarvis Howell, J.L. Lassiter, and D.B. Taylor. She has left to mourn their loss four sons, G.C., R.O. and W.J. Hill of Como, and Robert Hill of Andrews, S.C., and three daughters, Mrs. D.B. Taylor, Mrs. J.L. Lassiter of Como, and Mrs. James Waldron of Coward, S.C., besides many relatives and friends.
