JAKE LILES HOWELL

COMO, N.C. – Jake Liles Howell, 81, died Friday night, September 11, in a 
Williamsburg hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Mrs. Fannie Beale Howell and the son of Cyrus D. and Mrs. 
Lucy Story Howell.
Mr. Howell was a native of Hertford County, a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church, 
former superintendent of the Sunday school, teacher of the Men’s Bible Class and 
a member of the board of deacons.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Eure of Como and Mrs. Hunter Daughtrey 
of Franklin; five sons, Jarvis L. Howell of Holland, Cyrus D. Howell of Como, 
William C. Howell of Murfreesboro, Robert L. Howell and Granville B. Howell of 
Portsmouth; one sister, Mrs. Ella Bunn of Portsmouth; two half-brothers, Sam 
Copeland and Harvey Copeland of Murfreesboro; 19 grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.
Funeral service was held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Buckhorn Baptist Church by the 
pastor, the Rev. E.E. Ballard, and the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton Jr., pastor of the 
Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were R.H. Copeland, Dennis Brett, Carl Howell, Euclid Howell, 
Wallace Brett, Linwood Whitley, Elvin Curle and R.E. Darden.
