The two were Morton Thomas King, aged 65, who died Sunday night at Raiford Memorial Hospital, after having been in ill health for more than a year, and Miss Rosa Carolina King, aged 69, who died Monday night at her home after an illness of nearly two years’ duration. Mr. and Miss King were children of the late Nathaniel and Susie Jenkins King of North Carolina. Mr. King was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church, and had resided in the Franklin community for eighteen years. Miss King had made her home with her brother for the past two years. Surviving Mr. King are one son, Edward King of Franklin; two stepsons, L.B. Battle, with the U.S. Army in England, and James Battle of Franklin; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Vernon DeGrange of Baltimore. Mr. and Miss King age survived by three brothers, J.H. King of Franklin, George King of Como, and W. Eddie King of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. The joint services for Mr. and Miss King were conducted by Rev. J.L. Lanier, pastor of Buckhorn Baptist Church, and Rev. John W. Morrison of the Newsoms Methodist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers for the two burial were from the following: James Daughtrey, S.W. Lankford, George Burgess, Pat Cotton, Vernard Cotton, Marshall DeBerry, W.H. Rutledge, Virgil Derby, Ryland Edwards, Jesse McClenny and John Ferguson.
