MARY VIRGINIA ALLEN LASSITER

THE TIDEWATER NEWS – 11-16-1961, SECT. 2, P. 6

   SUFFOLK – Mrs. Mary Virginia Allen Lassiter, 38, died early Friday in 
Norfolk General Hospital after 16 days of illness.

   She was the wife of Meigs M. Lassiter and daughter of Mrs. Mattie Bryant 
Allen of Suffolk and the late Lonnie Alonza Allen of Hertford County, N.C.  
She was a member of Branchville Methodist Church.

   In addition to her husband and her mother, she is survived by two 
daughters, Mrs. Arthur Dempsey Ellis and Miss Patricia Ann Edwards of Suffolk; 
two sons, Tom Edwards of Florida and Meigs M. Lassiter, Jr. of the home; four 
sisters, Mrs. Cleo Spence of Branchville, Mrs. Edward Gray of Newsoms, Mrs. 
C.L. Gay of Portsmouth and Mrs. Richard Winslow of Suffolk. Five brothers, 
Eldridge Allen of Boykins, Horace J. Allen of Branchville, B.R. Allan of 
Suffolk and Carroll G. Allen and Edward L. Allen of Norfolk.

   A funeral service was conducted in Hill Funeral Home Sunday at 2 p.m. by 
the Rev. John C. Mitchell of First Baptist Church and the Rev. R.E. Brittle of 
Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial was in Lassiter family cemetery near 
Cypress Chapel.
