Majette, well-known Como citizen, died Tuesday afternoon following an extended illness. Funeral rites were conducted from Buckhorn Baptist Church, where she had been a useful and faithful member of many years, Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock conducted by her Pastor, Rev. J.L. Lanier, assisted by a former pastor and friend, Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner of Henderson, N.C., and by the Rev. Mr. Nickens, pastor of the Murfreesboro Baptist Church. Active bearers were: Davis B. Spiers, Julian B. Worrell, Roswell Hart, Judge W.D. Boone of Winton, J.N. Vann of Ahoskie, P.W. Majette of Grimesland, N.C., Frederick and Henry Parker. Mrs. Majette was the daughter of the late Thaddeus and Mrs. Anquila Brett Vann, of a family long prominent in North Carolina. She was educated at Chowan College and had spent all of her life in the Como community an admirable Christian character of many fine qualities. Surviving her are her husband, Reuben A. Majette; five sisters, Mrs. H.B. Parker of Goldsboro, Mrs. Thomas B. Wynn of Murfreesboro, Mrs. H. McDonald Spiers, Misses Josephine and Eddie Mae Vann of Como, and a brother, Herber J. Vann of Como; one nephew and two nieces. Burial was made in the family plot in the church cemetery at Buckhorn.
