HULTON EUNICE ASBELL MATHIAS

SUFFOLK – Eunice Asbell Mathias, 93, of the 200 block of W. Constance Road, died 
March 12, 2000.

She was born in Nansemond County, Va., the daughter of the late James D. Asbell 
and Etta J. Proctor Asbell. She was the widow of Martin Nathaniel “Boss” 
Mathias, and a member of Eureka Baptist Church in Corapeake, N.C.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ophelia Brown of Virginia Beach, Betty M. 
Moore and Catherine J. Ambrose, both of Suffolk, Carolyn M. Byrum of Ahoskie, 
N.C., and Peggy M. Carr of Suffolk; her sons, George S. “Tip” Mathias of Gates, 
N.C., and J. Wilson Mathias Sr. of Suffolk; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-
grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Eureka Baptist Church by the 
Rev. Cameron Currin. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may join 
the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Hill Funeral Home, and other times at the 
home of Peggy M. Carr, 146 Robin Lane, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made 
to Eureka Baptist Church.
