ROBERT LEWIS NURNEY

   Robert Lewis Nurney, 68, retired farmer of the Capron community, died early 
Tuesday morning, February 5, in Raiford Memorial Hospital from injuries received 
in an automobile accident more than a week ago on Highway 58 near Courtland.

   Mr. Nurney was injured when the car in which he was riding with his brother, 
Wallace C. Nurney of Capron, struck the rear of a truck. His brother is reported 
improving.

   Mr. Nurney was a native of Hertford County, N.C.; and for the past 50 years 
had made his home in Southampton County. He was the son of the late Willie and 
Mrs. Sallie Parker Nurney of Hertford County, and was a member of the Newsoms 
Methodist Church.

   Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Mai Vinson of Murfreesboro, N.C.; four 
brothers, William Waverly Nurney, Ernest C. Nurney, all of Courtland, and 
Wallace C. Nurney of Capron, and a number of nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the 
W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by Rev. O.L. Gochenour, pastor of the 
Newsoms Methodist Church. Burial was in Meherrin Church Cemetery, Murfreesboro, 
N.C. 

   Active pallbearers were Clyde Vinson, Ashby Murney, Alton Ballard, Joe 
Majette, Leslie Whitehead and Gillette Bryant.
