JOHN HENRY PILAND, JR.

John H. Piland, Jr. Buried Here Tuesday

  Funeral services for John Henry Piland Jr., who died Saturday, were conducted 
Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. John S. Carroll, pastor 
of the Magnolia Baptist Church, the Rev. George D. Alley, pastor of the Suffolk 
Christian Church, and the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian 
Church.  Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery with military rites at the graveside.

  Miss Carmennette Peele sang the hymns "Just As "Am" and "Beyond the Sunset."  
She was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. J. Webb Pinner Jr.

  The casket was covered with a pall of red carnations and baby's breath.

  Pallbearers were A.B. Brady, L.L. Brinkley, Arthur Lee Latimer, Durward K, 
Buck, Linwood B. Johnson, George R. Gay, Walter Umphlette and Jerry S. Cates.
