MARY E. UMPHLETTE SAUNDERS

   Mrs. Mary E. Saunders, 80, prominent resident of Como, N.C., died Saturday at 
the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. H.E. Bailey, after two weeks’ illness. She 
is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W.T. Powell of Como, Mrs. Grace Deans and 
Mrs. N.S. Eure, of Norfolk, and one son, John Saunders of Norfolk; two brothers, 
John S. Umphlette of Norfolk and Hardy Umphlette of Tarboro, N.C., and a number 
of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the chapel of 
W.J.M. Holland & Sons here, conducted by the Rev. Dempsey Robinson. Burial was 
made in the cemetery at Buckhorn Baptist Church at Como.
