Raleigh News & Observer: 
A few days ago W P Sawyer, an inmate of the Central hospital for the insane,
located near this city, met with a horrible death. He was in the habit of
staggering and stumbling when he walked, and while running along in the hallway
he stumbled, tripping himself and falling heavily on the floor. The unfortunate
man's head struck a bench, nearly fracturing his skull. He only lived a few
hours after the accident. Sawyer was sent here about a year ago from Hertford
county.
