DAVIS BRYANT SPIERS

   COMO, N.C. – A graveside funeral service for Davis Bryant Spiers Sr. was 
conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery by 
the Rev. N.J. McManus. W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, was in charge.

   Pallbearers were Carr Guy Picot, Rufus Darden, Linwood Whitley, Livington 
Sumner, Dr. A.A. McLain, Thomas Bowles, Dick Taylor and John S. Lawrence.

   Spiers, 82, prominent civic and community leader of Hertford County, died 
early Friday morning in the Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, N.C.

   The son of the late Hugh McDonald Spiers of Como and Mrs. Anna Ball Spiers, a 
native of Deep Creek, Va., he was owner and president of Chowan Milling Co., 
Como, N.C. and a well known retired farmer of Eastern North Carolina.

   Surviving are one son, Davis Bryant Spiers Jr. of Franklin; one sisters, Mrs. 
John Littlepage Lancaster, Chrlottesville; one grandson and one great 
granddaughter.
