Sinai Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis., early Friday morning, June 29, were conducted at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock by Rev. Elmer N. Hassell, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, and Rev. J.S. Maxey. The pallbearers were Dennis L. Brett, Edward F. Gilliam, Edgar Jackson, L.Bailey Maddrey, W.T. Pace, Jr., George G. Smith, Harry Steinhardt and H.L. Westbrook. Mr. Weede was born in Murfreesboro, N.C., on September 30, 1873, the son of the late Joseph T. and Celia Jackson Weede. Preceding his parents to Franklin by a year or two, he attended the school taught by the late Mrs. M.L. Bryant and made his home with his grandfather, the late Capt. J.A. Jackson. As a young man he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed aboard the USS Maine, being transferred from that ship only a short while before it was blown up in the harbor of Havana, Cuba. Afterwards he served in the navy and army, and was in the Philippine Islands during the insurrection led by Aguinaldo. His career in the services of his county was rich in interesting experiences. Returned to civilian life, he worked for some years with a rubber company in Akron, Ohio. After residing for a ------- in Cincinnati he moved to Milwaukee, where he spent his last years. He had made several visits to his relatives here. In failing health for some months, he became critically ill about three weeks ago, when he was removed to the hospital. At his bedside when he passed away were his brothers, J. Edgar Weede and Willie M. Weede of Franklin. The remains were brought to Franklin for burial in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Surviving his are a sister, Miss Pattie D. Weede, and three brothers, Jesse A., J. Edgar and Willie M. Weede, all of Franklin; and two nephews, Davis Weede of Atlanta, Ga., and Jesse A. Weede Jr., of Franklin. A sister, Miss Lizzie R. Weede, passed away in January. *Line through part of this obit.
