CHARLES HENRY WHITLEY

   Charles H. Whitley, a well-known resident of this town, died at 85 last 
Saturday at his home in South Street following an illness of two years. Mr. 
Whitley was a lifelong member of New Hope Methodist Church, Hertford County, 
N.C., and attended services there as long as his health permitted. He is 
survived by five sons: T.C. Fletcher and Lloyd Whitley of Franklin and Percy and 
Elvin Whitley of Carrsville. Sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren 
also survive him.

   Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from New Hope Church 
by Rev. C.F. Moseley of Newsoms, assisted by Rev. A. McK. Reynolds of Franklin 
and Rev. J.T. Garland Moore of Carrsville. Interment was made in the family 
cemetery near Como, pallbearers being Wallace Worrell, Fletcher Worrell, Charlie 
Whitfield of Sunbeam, L.M. Miles, W.H. Jones of A., J. Edgar Weede, J.D. Fowler 
and R.L. Wellons.
