AFFA MAE DRAKE WHITLEY

   Mrs. Affa Mae Drake Whitley, 74, died early Friday night, June 10, in the 
home of her daughter, Mrs. C.R. Dunn of Union, near Murfreesboro, N.C., death 
coming as the result of a heart attack. Mrs. Whitley’s home was in Boykins, but 
she had been visiting her daughter since February.

   She was the wife of the late J.B. Whitley of Newsoms, and the daughter of the 
late John and Mary Lelia Drake of this county. She was a member of Mt. Horeb 
Methodist Church near Newsoms.

   Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. C.R. Bunn of Union, N.C., and Mrs. L.C. 
Powell of Suffolk; one son, F.B. Whitley of Norfolk;  several grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. W.R. Atkinson of Franklin, Miss Beulah 
Drake and Miss Helen Drake of Boykins, Mrs. M.E. Allbritton of Arcadia, Fla., 
and Mrs. Joe Hines of Petersburg.

   Funeral services for Mrs. were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in 
the Holland Funeral Home, Franklin, by Rev. C.T. Topping, pastor of Oxford 
Methodist Church, Suffolk, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin, Rev. 
Graham S. Carlton of Petersburg, and Rev. John G. Truitt, D.D., of Suffolk.

   Burial was in the family cemetery near Delaware, with F.B. Whitley, Jr., L.C. 
Powell, Jr., Charles R. Dunn, Jr., James E. Whitley, W.R. Atkinson, Jr., and 
Gerald, Julian and Bill Woodward serving as pallbearers.
