For 30 years we have known him as one of our staunchest and best friends. We met him first in 1872 at the founding of The Economist and became the friend of its editor. Born in Hyde County, his loss to the County and to the State is a great and serious one. He had served in the Legislative councils of the state. In private he was plain, simple and unobtrusive. A devout Christian and humble member of the M.E. Church, he walked with God daily, and if a blameless life is the precusor of a blissful immortality, he now rests in happiness among the blessed.
