Born in Hyde County, N.C., she was the widow of Leonard Kemp and a retired secretary for the Norfolk Navy Yard. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Kemp Vincent of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Brett T. Vincent and his wife, Cori, of Greenbush, and Bart L. Vincent of Chesapeake; and three great-grandchildren, Amy and Dawn Vincent of Greenbush, and Brian Vincent of Chesapeake. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. E. Kirk Robinson. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. She is survived by two sisters: Lucy Garrish and Ellen Garrish, both of Ocracoke; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Interment was to follow in the Garrish Family cemetery. He was born on Aug. 28, 1938, in Swan Quarter, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Sue E. Key; a special friend, J.D. Mensch, and also a special friend, Joan Habit. Other survivors include a son, George Key Jr.; two step-sons, Ronnie Gay and John Gay; daughter-in-law, Jane Key; two grandsons, Christopher Key and Ronnie Gay Jr.; two granddaughters, Samantha Key, and Cassidy Greenwell; three sisters, Brenda Forkin, Ann Panaro and Phyllis Monds; three brothers, Julian Key, Taylor Key and Tim Key. He was a native of Norfolk, Va. and served in the U.S. Army for 30 years until his retirement in 1959. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion. Surviving are a brother, Samuel E. Kight of Little Falls, Nebraska; and a sister, Ruby May Dudley of Silver Springs, Md. Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter. Funeral Services were to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Brooks Cemetery at Gulrock. Dr. Frank Wibiral will officiate. KIMELL, aged 65 years, of Clemmons, N.C., died on Saturday night about 9 p.m. upon his arrival at their country home here. Mr. Kimell, who has been in poor health for the past 5 years, collapsed following the trip. Mr. & Mrs. Kimell bought the Gibbs place in Engelhard a few years ago and spend vacations here on occasions. Mrs. Kimell and a relative were also making the trip here. They returned to their home on Sunday. Born in Landstruhl, Germany on January 13, 1980, he had lived in Engelhard during the past several years. He had attended Mattamuskeet School and had recently lived in Chowan County and had attended Faith Fellowship Baptist Church. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Milica Mikuljevic Midyette and Andy Midyette of Engelhard; his father, Marion Hardaway King, III of Staunton, Va.; his paternal grandmother, Kathleen Bowers of Richmond, Va.; his maternal grandfather, Milorad Mikuljevic of Kaiserslautern, Germany; his maternal great-grandfather, Dragomir Pavlov of Yugoslavia; two brothers: Michael H. King of the U.S. Navy in Hampton, Va. and Brandon L. King of Engelhard; and his special friend, Shelly Davis of Edenton. Funeral services were held on Monday at the family ploy in Soule Cemetery. A native of Swan Quarter, she was the widow of Charlie King, and was a member of the Deaconess Board, Willing Worker Sunday School Class, and Original Gospel Chorus of First Baptist Church, Bute Street. She was also a member of Mamie E. Gordon Missionary Circle United Order of Tents. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Martha Green of New Bern; a brother, Kelley Green of Swan Quarter; 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending. Smith of Capital Heights, Md.; five sons, Allen Boykins of Chesapeake, Calvin A. Brown and Linwood L. King Sr., both of Portsmouth, James M. King of Fort Washington, Md., and Harry E. Brown of Staunton, Va.; a sister, Zuleana Holloway of Chesapeake; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Annie K. Cotten and Lucille K. Johnson, both of Norfolk; two sons, Rufus King Jr. and the Rev. Parrish King, both of New York City; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Graves Funeral Home by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. A native of Sladesville, she was the daughter of the late William Selby and Eva Mae Sadler Spencer. She was the widow of Josephus D. Klapp with whom she operated the Bath Novelty Store in Bath for many years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sladesville. Surviving are two sons: James F. Klapp of Belhaven, and J.D. Klapp of Fayetteville; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the family plot in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington. He had lived in Washington County for about 30 years and most recently had resided at Plumblee Health Center. A Hyde County native, he was the son of the late Charlie and May Thomas Knickerbocker. He was a retired diesel mechanic and worked in the Norfolk Shipyard. Surviving are a son, Michael Knickerbocker of Plymouth; four daughters: Marie K. Williams of Plymouth, Betty K. Davenport of New Orleans, La., Carolyn K. Clark of Chocowinity, and Roslyn [nothing else written]; two step-daughters: Helen Waterfield of Creswell and Faye Swain of Granville Summit, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the gravesite in the family plot at Soule Cemetery at Swan Quarter. Mark Woolard will officiate. Phillip Glen KNOTT, 54, of Route 1, died in Nevis, the British West Indies, on May 30 while on a mission trip there. A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late Alton G. and Mildred Sledge Knott. He was educated in the Mills High School, Louisburg and the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 1982. He was in the N.C. National Guard following high school. He served as pastor of Trinity Baptist Mission in Hollister, Swan Quarter Baptist Church, Merry Hill Baptist Church, Zama Baptist Church in Japan during a mission trip 1990-92, and had been recently serving at Rose Bay Baptist Church near Swan Quarter. At the time of his death he was serving on a special mission to the First Baptist Church of Nevis in the British West Indies. He was a member of Rose Bay Baptist Church. During his ministry, he served several times through the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in various places in the Caribbean Islands, Africa, and Europe. Active in community affairs, he was secretary-treasurer of the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Swan Quarter Service Group, chaplain for Hydeland Home Health Agency and Hyde County Sheriff's department. Surviving are his wife, Karen Kidd Knott; a son, Charles Glen Knott of the home; a daughter, Christine Knott Avery of Coats; two brothers: John A. Knott and Ralph S. Knott, both of Louisburg; two sisters: Joyce K. Weathers and Linda K. Griffin, both of Louisburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Rose Bay Baptist Church. The Rev. Tommy Glover, the Rev. John Hamilton and Sam Eburn, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
