He was born September 28, 1877, son of the late James Howard Wahab and Emma Smith Wahab, and was a life-long resident of Hyde County. Rev. J.N. Bynum of Battleboro officiated. Burial was in the family cemetery in Currituck. Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. D.D. Topping of Pantego, Mrs. Thomas W. Cahoon of Swan Quarter, Mrs. James W. Barkley of Rocky Mounty and Mrs. Robert E. Tunnell of Greenville; three sons: Job H. Wahab and Charles E. Jr. of Warsaw, N.C. and Captain Thomas W. Wahab of the USAF, presently stationed at Columbus, Ohio; two sisters: Mrs. Carl Wilson of Belhaven and Mrs. Herbert Rittenhouse of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers: H.W. Wahab of Belhaven and W.W. A native of Ocracoke, N.C. and a resident of Chesapeake and Portsmouth for 67 years, she was the widow of Frank H. Wampler. Survivors include two daughters: Margart Gaskins and her husband Lindsay of Chesapeake, and Mary Russell and her husband Bill of Cheaspeake; four grandchildren: Bonnie Gaskins, Alan Gaskins, Alison Jastrebsky and Frank Sutton; and three great-grandchildren: Jess Power, Teresa Barnett and Dustin Jastrebsky. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Mooney and the widow of Hallet Ward. She was a member of Fairfield Christian Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Claudia M. Barber of Engelhard; three sons: J.B. Neal, John T. Neal and Ted D. Neal, all of Engelhard; two brothers: Roland Mooney of New Orleans, La. and Frank Mooney of Chesapeake, Va.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wardlow was born in Indianapolis, Ind. and retired as manager from the Ocracoke Sanitary District. He was a Methodist and was one of the first founders of the Ocracoke Sanitary District and the Ocracoke Medical Center. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Mr. Wardlow was the son of the late Worthy Demont Wardlow and the late Hazel Manship Wardlow and the husband of Jean Gardiner Wardlow of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by two nieces, Beverly Morisset of Brussels, Belgium and Cindy Shumaker of Bremen, Ind.; three nephews, Danny Hoyt of Topanga, Calif., Allan Wardlow of Alabama and Sherril Wardlow of Bremen. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ocracoke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Allen Lovell. Mrs. Watson was a native of Swan Quarter and after her marriage, she came to the Aurora community where she has since made her home. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mollie Benson and the late T.R. Benson of Swan Quarter. She was a member of the Aurora Methodist Church. Mrs. Watson is survived by her husband [Leslie Alston Watson]; [four sons?] Leslie A. Watson, Jr. of Wake Forest, S.B. Watson of Greensboro, Frank M. Watson of Nashville, Walter A. Watson of Aurora; three daughters, Mrs. S.S. Henry, Mrs. S.R. Peterson, both of Greensboro, and Mrs. Mark Cuthrell of Aurora; three sisters: Mrs. H.C. Boomer, Mrs. W.C. Boomer and Miss Hattie Benson, all of Swan Quarter; and 3 grandchildren. She was also a resident of Durham and was visiting in Hyde County at the time of her death. A native of Macon, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jefferson W. and Freda Schofield Tutt. She was the widow of George I. Watson who died January 11, 1987. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Durham and Reserve Officers Homemakers Club of Lake Landing. Surviving are two sons: Ernest C. Watson of Durham, and Dr. William F. Watson of Raleigh; a brother, John Franklin Tutt of Asheville; a sister, Mrs. Teenie T. Veal of Macon, Georgia; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Amity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Wilbur Ormond, former pastor, will officiate. He was a life-long resident of Hyde County and died at 1:30 Wednesday morning in the Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven following an illness of two weeks. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sally Watson; one daughter, Louise Watson of Engelhard; two sons: Thomas and Allen Watson of Baltimore, Md.; one step-son, Bennie Williams of Engelhard. A native of Anniston, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Lucille Baker Watkins. She was the widow of Benjamin Thomas Brooks, Sr. who died in 1986. Mrs. Watson was a former site manager with Mid-East Housing Authority at the Bay Court Housing Complex in Swan Quarter. She was a member of Swan Quarter Baptist Church. Mrs. Watson, a lifelong resident of Hyde County, was born October 29, 1860. Had she lived until October 29, she would have been 89 years old. She was the daughter of the late John Gibbs and Eliza Scoff [should be Scott] Gibbs of Engelhard. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Scottish Rite and Order of Eastern Star, Elizabeth Chapter 3. Survivors include her husband, Roscoe Watson; a step-daughter, Linda Watson; six step-sons, Roscoe M. Watson, Clifton Watson, Raymond Watson, Maurice Watson, Larry Watson and Alvin Watson; her mother, Barzilla Farrow; and a sister, Willie M. Pritchard, all of Norfolk. WATSON, 91, oldest resident of Lake Landing, died at her home at 4 o'clock Monday morning after several weeks of failing health. Death was caused by the infirmities of age. Mrs. Watson was the daughter of the late Riley and Ellen Murray, prominent residents of Hyde County. She is the last of their children to die. She was born, reared, and spent her entire life in Hyde County. She was a member Amity Methodist Church and took an active interest in it as long as her health would permit. Mrs. Watson was twice married. Her first husband was Dr. J.G. Golet of Hyde. Her second husband was the late George I. Watson. She is survived by two sons: George M. Watson of Bethel and W. Warren Watson of Fairfield, with whom she made her home; two step-children: Mrs. B.H. Black of Durham and James C. Watson of Fairfield. Mrs. Wells was retired from restaurant work and was a home- maker. She was a member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wells was the daughter of the late Billy and Eliza Scarborough O'Neal and the widow of Edwin Avery Wells. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Soule United Methodist Church is Swan Quarter. A doctor of veterinary medicine, Dr. Weston, had practiced for 44 years. He attended N.C. State College and graduated from veterinarian school in 1916. Dr. Weston was a native of Hyde County and a member of the First Methodist Church. He served [as a Captain] in the U.S. Cavalry during World War I, and was active in the American Legion, having served as Post Commander and was historian of the Post for many years. He was active in the Randolph Chapter of the American Red Cross. He is survived by a son, Clary Weston of Asheboro; a sister, Miss Mary Weston of Asheboro; and 4 grandchildren. She was also a member of the Grey Ladies. Mrs. Weston graduated from East Carolina College, Greenville, and taught in the North Carolina schools prior to her marriage. Born in Arvonia, Buckingham County, Va. in 1904, she was the daughter of the late Walter Fletcher and Alice Newton Snoddy. She was the widow of William Wayt Wheeler who died in 1971. Mrs. Wheeler was a charter member of the Swan Quarter Extension Homemaker's Club. She was awarded the "Mother of the Year" award. She was a active church woman, having been one of the organizing members of the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Swan Quarter Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Woman's Missionary Union. Surviving are three sons: William W. Wheeler and Walter F. "Buddy" Wheeler, both of Manteo, and Joseph Aubrey Wheeler of Swan Quarter; nine daughters: Dorothy W. Cahoon of Manteo, Mae W. Lupton of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Marjorie W. Alexander of Swannanoa, Doris W. Jernigan of Norfolk, Va., Jean W. O'Neal, Eleanor W. Swindell, Evelyn W. Wise, Joyce W. Carawan, and Marian W. He was a member of Old Richmond Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon, and in the Willing Workers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree of the National Park Service. A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Rudolplh and Erma Learch Wibiral. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he received the American Theatre, American Defense, Asiatic Pacific Theatre, European Theatre and Victory Medals. He retired as chief musician in 1947. Long active in community and county affairs. He worked as a volunteer emergency medical technician in Hyde County since 1983, was cited by Governor James Martin as Hyde County Volunteer of the year in 1987- 88, a past patron of Hyde chapter No. 213. Order of Eastern Star, he served as district deputy Grand Patron of the Second District, Grand Chapter of North Carolina, Order of Eastern Star, and was a long time member of the Hyde County Board of Social Service. Dr. Wibiral's ministry began in 194 with his ordination in the Disciple of Christ Church. He served in Poestenkill, 1947-1953, was Director of Men's Work in Rural Church Activities with North Carolina Christian Churches, 1953-1956, served in Hyde County as Minister of the Engelhard and Middletown churches 1956-1963, served churches in Raleigh 1963-1974 and retired moving back to Hyde County where he continued to serve as minister of the Engelhard and Middletown churches until his death. Surviving are his wife, Julia Louise Coburn Wibiral; a son, Bion Frank Wibiral of California; a daughter, Delight W. Escobar of Salinas, California; a sister, Erma MacGregor of California; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Dr. Wibiral had requested that his body be cremated. There will be no service. Williams of Staten Island, New York. Alton died on Wednesday, January 26th. Services were held at his home there and the body was brought here for burial in the Ocracoke Community Cemetery. Rev. W.M. Male, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated. Alton was the grandson of Mrs. Jacob Williams and the late Mr. Williams, and had many aunts, uncles, and cousins here. He spent all his summers here as a child and visited as often as possible as an adult, claiming Ocracoke was more home to him that his Staten Island home. He had visited here about three week ago and his sudden death was a shock to his many relatives and friends here. He is an only son, survived by both parents. George J. WILLIAMS died under the stern of his boat while attempting to free the propeller of a piece of net. It happened near Belhaven near the mouth of the Pungo River. The water was about waist deep and his companion in the boat, Jesse Fortescue, noted that he had said nothing for several minutes, and looked overboard and saw his hat floating away. It is believed he suffered a heart attack. He was a resident of West Belhaven. He was born in Hyde County, son of the late George R. and Lurainer Rose Williams and had been making his home in Belhaven since 1901. A fisherman and a member of the West Belhaven Christian Church, he was married to the former Lessie Cuthrell of Belhaven. Survivors are his wife; one son, Edmond Williams, U.S. Navy stationed in Alaska; one daughter, Mrs. Worth Fee of Norfolk; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Mrs. W.R. WILLIAMS, 78, of Ocracoke, died April 29 in a Greenville hospital. Mrs. Williams, a native of Ocracoke, was a daughter of the late Jacob and Brittina Williams Williams. Mrs. Williams was the wife of Milan Williams of the home and a member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. Beside her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Lydia Spencer of Ocracoke; three sisters: Vera Ballance, Eva Waller, and Maude Garrish, all of Ocracoke; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A church service will be conducted Tuesday, May 1, in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jefferson David. Burial will follow in the Community Cemetery. OCRACOKE - The death of Pinta D. WILLIAMS, age 43, on Monday morning, January 4th, was a great shock and sorrow to his friends here. Mr. Williams suffered a severe heart attack while at Green Island Club, where he had been acting as a hunting guide. He had just returned to the clubhouse from putting hunters in a blind at 7:41 a.m. when he became ill and died 15 minutes later. He was the son of the late Alice and David Williams. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Wilma Austin Williams of Ocracoke; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Belle Williams and one grandchild, Anne Denise Williams of Patuxent River, Maryland; two sisters: Mrs. William Warren of Norfolk and Mrs. Addie Williams of Ocracoke; two brothers: Jasper Williams of Baltimore, Maryland and Dallas Williams of Ocracoke. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. Robert Vickery of Ocracoke Methodist Church. He was a civic leader in the Ocracoke community, a member of the Civic Club, owner and operator of the Ocarcoke Electric and Gas Appliance Co., a well-known hunting guide, and owner also of a shrimping fishing boat. Mr. Williams was born in Hyde County, N.C. He retired from J.G. Horton & Son Construction, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Doris "Lucille'' Williams; four daughters, Cynthia Louise Fretwell of Lake Butler, Fla., Susie Jayne Shaw of Cogan Station, Pa., and Tammy Doris Dirks and Sharon Lynn Jordan, both of Virginia Beach; a son, William Wallace Williams, Jr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Rosa Lee Ross of Kinston, N.C.; two brothers, James Arden Williams of Richland, N.C., and Kelly Williams of Georgia; and 15 grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, 4832 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Earnest Roebuck. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, N.C. Mrs. Williams was a native of Corolla, resident of Ocracoke most of her life, and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Wesley and Mrs. Isabell Barnett Austin and the widow of Pinta David Williams. She is survived by one daughter: Alice W. Clark of Suffolk; one sister: Ruby Garrish of Ocracoke; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A church service will be held Tuesday, July 17, at 1 p.m. in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Clyde Denny. Burial will follow in the Williams family cemetery. Mrs. Willis, a native of Ocracoke, was a retired innkeeper and waitress, and was a member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Arretta Fulcher Williams. Mrs. Willis is survived by three grandchildren: Lonnie Burrus of Ocracoke, Karen Lusk and Johnny Burrus, both of Snow Hill; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Ocracoke United Methodist Church on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Vance Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery. WISE, 75 year old Stumpy Point resident, were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Stumpy Point Methodist Church by Rev. A.L.G. Stephenson. Graveside rites were conducted by the Mattakuskeet Masonic Lodge of Engelhard of which he was a member. Mr. Wise, who served in the Infantry in WW I, passed away at the veterans Hospital in Kecoughtan, Va. early Saturday after a confinement of several months. He was a fisherman most of his life, but for the past 15 years he ad been employed at the Norfolk Naval Base. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Wise of Stumpy Point; one sister, Mrs. Melton Hooper of Stumpy Point; three brothers: W.G. Wise of Stumpy Point, John M. Wise of New Bern and Will Wise of Norfolk, Va. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late Raymond Francis Wren, Sr. and Freda Schremmer Wren. He was the husband of Agnes Dudley Wren of the residence. Mr. Wren was a retired land surveyor for the state of Connecticut. Besides his wife, surviving are one daughter, Patricia W. Dzikot and husband Donald of Upton, Mass.; two sons: Michael Wren and wife Gisele of Rockyhill, Conn., and John Wren and wife Suzanne of Virginia Beach; one sister, Frances W. Grahn of Avon, N.C.; two foster brothers: Richard Tourville of Avon, Conn., and Lawrence Tourville of Las Vegas, Nev.; and 2 grandsons. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Vrijmoet. Born in Engelhard, she was the daughter of the late John Harvey and Cornelia Jordon Wright. She was a member of the Engelhard Christian Church. Surviving are her daughter, Sue Ellen O'Neal of Engelhard; a sister, Melba Neal Hall of Newport News, Va.; and a grandson, Robert Wayne O'Neal of Engelhard. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the family plot in the Fulford Cemetery in Engelhard. The Rev. Albert Stuck and Steve Bryan will officiate. Mrs. Wrobleski was born in Newark, N.J. and was the co-owner and operator of the Silver Lake Motel and restaurant in Ocracoke. She resided in Stanhope, N.J. for most of her life before moving to Green township, N.J. and then to Ocracoke. She was the daughter of Margaret Williams Glennon of Ocracoke and the late Jim Glennon, and the wife of Edward L. Wrobleski of the home. Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by one daughter, Peggy Wrobleski of Ocracoke; four sons: David and Daniel, both of Ocracoke, Edward of Stanhope, and William of Byram Township, N.J. and eight grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday (April 29), at 11 a.m. at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home in Tranquility, N.J. Burial will take place in the Tranquility Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.. at the funeral home.
