Hyde County Wills Book #4 - Hyde County, NC - Wills Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Project Archives by Hyde County NCGenWeb (jmack@bbs.carolina.net) Hyde Co., NC Wills and Accounts Will Book # 4 (Feb. Term, 1819 - Nov. Term, 1830) Abstracted by Kay Lynn Midgett Sheppard Forward "In the Name of God, Amen!" Abstracts of Hyde Co., NC Wills Probate 1709-1775 was abstracted by Ellen A. Williams of Swan Quarter, NC in 1989. Mrs. Williams is now working on Hyde County wills that span the years 1776-1818 which will be published in the future. Thus it was recently suggested that I begin abstracting Hyde Co. Will Book 4 which starts February Term, 1819 and goes through November Term, 1830. Will Book 4 includes inventories of estates, estate sales, administration accounts, guardian accounts, year's allotment for widow's and divisions of property. Some page numbers were skipped or repeated in the original will book so I chose to do Will Book 4 numerically. Inventories are listings of all personal property on hand at the time of decedent's death. Most of the time these inventories did not include real estate holdings. Some of these inventories and estate sales were very lengthy and could not be included in their entirety for the web page. I did, however, list some of the buyers at the estate sales and included the date the inventory or sale took place. Administration accounts were made by the administrator after liquidating the estate. These accounts were usually listings of expenses accrued by the administrator while carrying out his duties and often listed notes (some insolvent) due the estate from various people. Guardians were required to submit annual accounts of their wards. These were normally lists of items that had been purchased through the year by the guardian for his ward, i.e., shoes, cloth, school tuition, toiletries, etc., and a list of expenses the guardian had accrued while serving in his capacity as such. Bear in mind, this is just an abstraction, not verbatim text. If anyone wishes a more in-depth account of someone's estate or needs the page number on which it appears, please send a message to: Kay Midgett Sheppard . If a copy of the original is needed please write to the North Carolina Division of Archives and History, 109 East Jones St., Raleigh, N.C. 27611 and include the book and page numbers. The microfilm roll that I used was C.053.80002. Mrs. Williams' book, "In the Name of God, Amen!" may be purchased through the Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society at Route 1, Box 74, Fairfield, North Carolina 27826. ********************************************************************** USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
