Howard jhhoward@comcast.net May 2, 2007, 3:12 pm Captain John Dickey Revolutionary War File Captain John Dickey Revolutionary War File U. S. National Archives W 3962 Based on his Revolutionary War Service, in which he served when he was in his mid to late 50s, John Dickey’s second wife Elizabeth Leasey applied for a pension which, through trial and tribulation and, with the proverbial bureaucratic red tape, she never received. It was not until 1852 that the pension was granted to their daughter Margaret (Dickey) Anderson when she was almost 60 years old. The pension application provides a record of his fascinating military service through statements made by his wife, Elizabeth (12 September 1844); by John Cochran (26 September 1844); by David Hair (30 September 1844); by daughter, Margaret (Dickey) Anderson (19 November 1846 and 9 April 1852); and by Alfred D. Kerr (1852). He fought in the Battle of Ramsour’s Mill, Battle of Camden, Battle of Kings Mountain, and the Skirmish at Cowan’s Ford. The documents contained in the file, presented in chronological order, are transcriptions made from the original documents in John Dickey's Revolutionary War pension file, located in the U. S.
