Certification supporting application by E. F. Rockwell and Alexander Huggins [13 Sept 1844] State of North Carolina Be it known that on this day the 13th of Sept 1844 before me Mathias E. Manly one of the judges of the superior court of law and equity for the state aforesaid then presiding in the superior court from the county of Iredell in said state Elizabeth Dickey appeared in open court & subscribed & made oath to the foregoing. At the same time it was made appear to me that E. F. Rockwell & Alexander Huggins whose certification is affixed to these papers are persons of respectability. that the former is a clergyman & that these statements are entitled to full credit & I do accordingly certify the same. under my hand on this day above stated in open court M. E. Manly Judge State of North Carolina Iredell County I Samuel R. Bell clerk of Iredell Superior Court of law do certify that M. E. Manly whose name is signed to the above certificate is one of the Judges of the superior Court of law and Courts of Equity of said state & that the signature purporting to be his is genuine In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of my office at Statesville this 23rd day of November in the 69th year of our Independence A. D. 1844 S. R. Bell Clk We E F Rockwell a clergyman residing in Iredell County State of North Carolina and Alexander Huggins residing in the same place hereby certify that we are acquainted with Elizabeth Dickey widow of Captain John Dickey, who has signed the foregoing declaration. That is E. F. Rockwell has been acquainted with her for a short time but has undoubted evidence of the fact that the said Elizabeth Dickey is the widow of Captain John Dickey who was a soldier in the revolutionary war commanded a company as Captain. That she is a highly respectable and a credible person and a pious and consistent member of the Presbyterian Church and Alexander Huggins sayeth that he has been acquainted with the said Elizabeth Dickey nearly all his life. That she is the widow of the said Capt John Dickey who was a soldier and a Captain in the war of the Revolution. That he was raised from childhood in said Dickey's neighbourhood. was well acquainted with Capt Dickey up to the period of his death which took place about the year 1808. that he was always respected and believed in the neighbourhood where he resided to have been a solider and a Captain in the revolution. That he was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church until his death. That Elizabeth Dickey the present applicant is still a widow. That she is a highly credible person.
