Renewal of pension application by daughter, Margaret (Dickey) Anderson and John S. Johnston’s statement of support [9 April 1852] State of North Carolina Roan County On this the 9th day of April 1852 personally appeared before the undersigned, a justice of the peace in and for said county Mrs. Margaret Anderson a resident of said county aged fifty six [?] who on her oath made the following [?] did as above [?]. The United States ? ? ? ? sd. Roan Co ? ? ? ? Elizabeth Dickey ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? and, who was ? ? ? the late Captain John Dickey as the identical John Dickey who was a Captain ? ? ? ? Revolutionary war and at that time he ? ? ? Dickey as she always understood from him was one of the first Captains who commanded a company from said Roan County at the commencement of the Revolutionary War in 1775 that he continued in said service and in command of a company for the greater part of the said war . She has after heard him say that he was at the battles of Ramsour's Mill and at King's Mountain was present in command of his company when Genl. Davidson was killed by the British at Cowan's Ford on the Catawba river and that he with his company was ordered to and Burried said General Davidson. at this time her father lived in said Roan County near Torrence Tavern(?) that he served Capt. John Brevard and she thinks he was under Col. Matthew Lock and General Rutherford and that she distinctly recollects having often heard her father say that he was the greater part of his time in the services for the reason that the Tories was so bad that it was dangerous for him to stay at home that her father also was the captain in whose charge the gunpowder was placed for the use of the army that in consequence of the fear that the Tories would take it away from him that he on one occasion removed it to his meadow and covered it up with his hay. This affiant has repeatedly heard her father tell . She has further heard him speak of Captain (Hardin?), Armstrong, Mc[?] and other Captains who was in service as being brave officers and good whigs. declarent is satisfied therefore from what she always understood from her father the said John Dickey that he was in active service for the greater part of the whole revolutionary war or at least that he served as Captain for more than two years. She further states that her father & mother was the said Elizabeth Dickey was married as she understood from them in the month of November seventeen hundred and ninety three as well as she now recollects tho she has not now those old family record as it was sent by her mother to the city of Washington with her first application for a pension which record contains the date of their marriage. that her father and mother at the time of their marriage lived near the county line of Mecklenburg and Roan county and she thinks that her mother lived in Mecklenburg County. that previous to name was Elizabeth Leasy. that her father the said John Dickey died in Iredell County North Carolina on the 20 day of March 1808. that he was eighty four years of age. that he left his widow the said Elizabeth Dickey who survived him and remained his widow untill the 28th September 1845 one thousand eight hundred and forty five. that at the time of her death she left one child affiant who is the only surviving child and heir at law of her mother the said Elizabeth Dickey and that previous to the death of her mother she had made application for a pension but which claim was not allowed. She therefore as the only surviving heir of her mother requests that her claim in rite of her mother may be examined and allowed and that she does truly(?) direct the Commissioner of pensions to deliver to her agent Wm. E. Jones her said pension certificate as soon as the same is allowed and to no one else who she does hereby appoint her agent and attorney to prosecute & recover her said claim. Sworn to and subscribed before me the date above Margaret Anderson A. J. Fleming J.P.
