Margaret (Dickey) Anderson’s assignment of an attorney and replacing her attorney [24 April 1852] Know all men by these presents that whereof I Margaret Anderson of the County of Rowan and State of North Carolina by my letter of attorney bearing date some three of four weeks previous to the present did make and constitute & approved Wm. E . Jones of the City of Nashville & state of Tennessee my attorney to procure from the United States, the amount of pension there might be due my Mother Elizabeth Dickey deceased for the services of her husband, my father Captain John Dickey deceased, as by the said letter of attorney will appear. Now know ye that I, the said Margt Anderson for certain good causes an considerations, moving me there to have revoked countermanded annulled or made the said letter of attorney & all power and authority thereby given or intended to be given to the Wm E Jones the witness wherein I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 24th day of April 1852. Margaret Anderson (seal) Witness B. Craige State of North Carolina Rowan County Be it known that on the 24th day of April 1852 before the subscriber a justice of the peace in aforesaid county personally appeared Margaret Anderson above named & acknowledged the the foregoing power of attorney to be her own act & deed. Witness my hand & seal this 24th day of April 1852. Obediah Woodson J.P. (seal) [April 1852] Rowan Co N. C. April 1852 To the Hon. Comr of Pensions Dear Sir Some two or three weeks since I gave a Power of attorney to Mr. Wm. E. Jones of the State of Tennessee authorizing him to act as my Agent to procure my Mother Elizabeth Dickey's (now deceased) pension for the services of my Father Captain John Dickey in the army of the Revolution. The papers and evidences of which case were procured and forwarded to the Department by Mr. W. F. Cowan of Iredell County North Carolina who was my Mother's proper agent during her lifetime and my proper agent since her death. I would state I live in a different county distant some twenty five or thirty miles from my said agent. I had not seen or heard anything from him on the subject for some considerable length of time. I thought he had perhaps abandoned the case. I without thinking or reflecting much on the subject empowered the above named person to the very great injustice of Mr. Cowan (in whom I have the fullest confidence). I learned soon after empowering Mr. Jones that Mr. Cowan was still presenting the claim as I had authorized him to do. he has been at a great deal of trouble in procuring evidence as you will see on a reference to the papers. I therefore am constrained to ask you to suspend any action on the power given by me to Mr. Jones for the present as I have no reason or wish to take it out of my said agent Mr Cowan's hands until he may decline acting. I have so informed Mr. Jones by letter provided it may reach him. In conclusion allow me to ask the favour of you at your earliest convenience to give the case a thorough reconsideration as Mr. Cowan has requested. Hoping for a favorable result I am your Obedient Servant Margaret Anderson File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/iredell/military/revwar/pensions/dickey526gmt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ncfiles/ File size: 3.9 Kb
