Miscellaneous documents [22 Jan 1935] Dept. of the Interior Bureau of Pensions Washington, D. C. Mr dear Sirs: Will you kindly send me the birthplace and when, of Captain John Dickey, who served under Col. Locke, Generals Rutherford and Davidson. I am trying to prove he lived in America prior to 1750. Also the record of Capt. William Johnston who was made Captain at or after the battle of Alamance against the regulators. This was during the administration of Gov. Martin. I desire to establish his record at that battle. Thanking you most sincerely, I am Mrs. N. A. MacLean 604 N. Elm St Lumberton, N. C. Jan 22, 1935 Lumberton N.C. [5 Feb 1935] February 5, 1935 Mrs. N. A. McLean BA-J/EEL 604 N. Elm Street John Dickey W. 3962 Lumberton, North Carolina Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you ask to be furnished with the date and place of birth of Captain John Dickey, a Revolutionary War soldier who served under Colonel Locke, Generals Rutherford and Davidson. You ask, also, for the record of Captain William Johnston, who was made captain after the battle of Alamance during the administration of Governor Martin. In the papers on file in pension claim, W. 3962, based upon the military service of Captain John Dickey, the date and place of the soldier's birth are not shown. The Revolutionary War records have been searched for Captain William Johnston and no record found of a claim for pension or bounty land having been made to the United States based upon the military service in that war of a William Johnston. In order to identify the record of a William Johnson, in which you may be interested, should it be on file, in addition to the full name of the soldier it is essential that you furnish the state from which he served and as much as possible of the following data: approximate dates of birth and death, place of residence at enlistment and after service and given name of widow. It will expedite the matter if you will return this letter with your reply. Very truly yours A. D.
