Burns' North Carolina Pension Abstracts of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 & Indian Wars: North Carolina Service of David Dickey, S 2522 (Born in Pennsylvania) Declaration was made in Iredell County North Carolina 1832 August 25 by David Dickey, age 72, who applied under the Act of June 7, 1832. He states he was drafted to guard the jail in 1778 at Salisbury NC in which some Tories were confined and who were afterwards executed. This was a service of 2 months. Afterwards he was ordered into the service and marched to Colsons where there was a skirmish with the Tories, he thinks he was about ten days in this service, he next entered by order of his officers into the service under Capt. James Byers and General Davidson for a few months tour which was performed in the neighborhood of Charlotte. After this he served a 3 months tour under Capt A Armstrong, Col Davidson and Gen Rutherford and marched to Wilmington and he lay at Ten mile bridge for sometime afterwards. He served 4 months under Capt. John Arnold and Gen Wayne which tour was performed on the Ohio River after the Indians, with whom they had an engagement. This last service was in the Horse. Served 14 months and 1/2 or more. He was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania 1760 and has no record of his age. He was living in Rowan Co. NC at the time he first entered service and since said war he removed to Kentucky and returned to Iredell County where he has lived for 26 years past. He refers to David and Robert Hair and George L. Davidson "David Hair in addition states he saw him said David Dickey in service near Charlotte and he was then under Capt. Byers. Robert Hair states he saw him frequently in the army during the Revolution and was with him in the expedition to Wilmington."
