She was born December 26, 1756. James Houston was born June 22, 1757. He served in 1777-1778 as Captain of a North Carolina company in Colonel William Park's regiment. He served in a tour which expired the day before the surrender of Charleston. He was discharged May 11, 1780. In 1780 he was captain of a company in Colonel Francis Locke's regiment. He was in the battle of Ramsour's Mill and was wounded in the thigh. In 1781 he was in an expedition to Guilford County, N.C. He was pensioned in 1806 on account of disability resulting from his wound. The marriage of James Houston to Asenath Brevard took place September 29, 1775, in Rowan County. They lived in Mecklenburg County. James Houston died June 13, 1819, in Iredell County. The widow died June 13, 1843. Their children were William Houston; Sarah Houston, married _____ McKee; Edward R. Houston; Mary C. Houston, married _______ Torrance; J. B., Richard, and George Houston.
