MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 1952 NO. 62 FRONT PAGE Holder Honored By Singing Dixie In New York State This editorial from the Herald-Journal of Syracuse, N. Y., is of interest here: “When Arthur Holder attained his 70th birthday the Rotary Club of Skaneatelics sang “Dixie” in his honor. Nothing could have pleased him more. For this warm-hearted native son of Statesville, down in North Carolina, clung to the memories of his boyhood days in the mellow, dreamy Southland of the nineties. But he loved, too, the beautiful village on the lake to which he had come two decades ago with Georgia-born Mrs. Holder to manage the Skaneatelics railroad. Now death has come to him at 71 and pathos marks the long-planned pilgrimage back South.” The above editorial was written by Mr. Victor L. Stephenson of the Herald- Journal. Skaneatelics is 20 miles from Syracuse and the two Statesvillians, Mr. Stephenson and Mr. Holder, kept the memory of the home town green with recollections of their boyhood and exchange of later news as they received it.
