OBITUARIES. Sgt. Holder, Span-Am Vet. One of Long Island's few surviving veterans of the Spanish American War died Dec. 7 in Washington D. C. He was retired M/Sgt. Roy A. Holder, a veteran of 30 years' service with the U. S. Army, who died at the age of 90. He had lived with a daughter. Mrs. Virginia H. Hansen of 11 Leuce Pl., several months each year since his retirement in 1928. Sgt. Holder, a native of North Carolina, and the youngest of 12 children, enlisted in 1898. He participated in the insurrection in the Phillipines, the Mexican Border dispute, saw service in France during World War I, and was stationed at numerous bases in the United States. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a granddaughter, Marjorie Elise Hansen. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ward Glenn Gypson of the First Presbyterian Church at the Dodge Thomas Chapel Monday evening. Interment was in Long Island National Cemetery.
