April 1, 1836  Charlotte Journal April 1, 1836
 -- At a meeting of the Delegates appointed by the Whigs in the Counties of 
Surry, Iredell, Wilkes and Ashem in convention at Wilkesboro, for the purpose 
of agreeing upon an Elector for the White and Tyler Ticket in that 
Congressional District, ANDERSON MITCHELL of Ashe County was unanimously 
chosen. The Revolutionary Patriot, GEN LENOIR of Wilkes presided in this 
Convention, assisted by COL. JOHN MARTIN, as Vice President; THOMAS HAMPTON of 
Surry and J. M. CAMPBELL, of Iredell, Secretaries.
