Craven Stricken While Cutting Wheat - Two Mules and a Horse Also Killed Mooresville, June 10 - Oscar M. Craven, a prominent young farmer of the Coddle creek community, was instantly killed by a stroke of lightning yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, while cutting wheat in a field near his house. Two mules and a horse were also killed at the same time. A negro sitting on one of the mules, which was killed, was unharmed with the exception of being stunned. The wife and three chidren were standing near the machine on which Mr. Craven was sitting. Mr. Craven had just put in a ball of twine and his little girl was standing right behind the machine holding the twine for him. His wife and three children were knocked down, but were uninjured. There was no rainfall at the time. Deceased was 34 years of age and a son of R.P. Craven, a prominent and influential farmer of the county. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at Coddle Creek Church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. R.C. Davidson.
