The Standard of Raleigh, June 10, 1863
   Drowned in the Catawba River on the first day of this month, while on a 
fishing excursion, COL. JOSEPH A. DAVIDSON of the 79th Regiment, North Carolia 
Militia. Also, his brother, AUGUSTUS DAVIDSON, Major of the same regiment. 
COL. DAVIDSON was about to drown, and his brother attempted to save him, and 
they both were drowned. 
   These two good and worthy citizens of Iredell lived about 3-1/2 miles from 
Statesville and will be missed a great deal by the community.
