Man and Wife Die Sunday

Lee Roy Mitchell, 72, and his wife, Mrs. Verdie Turner Mitchell, 72, of 
Harmony, died Sunday night at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.  Both 
died of heart attacks. Mr. Mitchell at 8:15 and Mrs. Mitchell at 10 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at 
Harmony Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Iredell County, Mr. Mitchell was employed by J.P. Stevens., 22 
years and by Gulf Oil Co., 24 years.  Mrs. Mitchell was born in Wilkes County, 
daughter of Welborn and Mary Irene Hayes Turner.  She was a public school 
teacher prior to her marriage.

Survivors of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell are a son, Dewey Warren Mitchell of 
Walkertown; two daughter, Mrs. Ray Marlowe of Murphreesboro and Mrs. Allen 
Wagoner of Hickory.  Mrs. Mitchell also is survived by a sister Mrs. Arvie T. 
Bell of Hamptonville, and four brothers, Wiley E. Turner of Hamptonville,  
P.V. Turner of Millers Creek, Dewey E. Turner of Cricket and Simeon P. Turner 
of Wolf Bayou, Ark.  Mr. Mitchell is also survived by a brother Arthur S. 
Mitchell of Union Grove; and four sisters, Miss Ina Mitchell of Union Grove,  
Mrs. Earl Bowlin,  Mrs. Roy Bowlin and Mrs. Jesse Austin of Statesville.
