MRS. J. J. MOTT DEAD.
Death of Mrs. Henly in Statesville and Other Deaths in the Country---Death in 
Charlotte.
   Mrs. Carrie Hendrix Mott, wife of Dr. J. J. Mott, died Saturday morning at 
8:15 o’clock at her home two miles east of town. Death resulted from 
pneumonia. Mrs. Mott had been ill only since last Monday and few people knew 
that her condition was critical until the news of her death was announced.
   Mrs. Mott was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hendrix, of Wilkes county, 
and was 65 years of age. In their early married life Dr. and Mrs. Mott lived 
in Catawba county. They moved to Statesville in the early 70s and since then 
they had lived in and near the town, moving to their country home 18 to 20 
years ago. The deceased was an energetic business woman, who took an active 
interest in her home affairs. She was possessed of many excellent qualities 
and was held in high esteem by those who knew her. She was the mother of nine 
children, W. W. Mott and Mrs. Florence Cowles, died several years ago, and one 
died in infancy. Those who survive are; M. L. Mott, of Muscogee, Indian 
Territory, attorney for the Creek Indians; Mrs. Jno. M. Sharpe, who lives near 
Statesville; Jas. Mott, of Statesville; John H. Mott, of Anacortes, Wash.; 
Mrs. C. E. Parlier, of Wilkesboro, and T. A. Mott, of the United States Marine 
service. The latter has been at home for some time and at the time of his 
mother’s death was confined with lagrippe. Dr. Mott has also been ill with 
pneumonia but his recovery is hoped for. All of Mrs. Mott’s children were with 
her in illness except Messrs. M. L. and John H. Mott and Mrs. Parlier. The 
latter arrived Saturday night. In addition to the children two grandchildren, 
Misses Florence and Carrie Cowles, early left motherless and reared by their 
grandmother, suffer in Mrs. Mott’s death the loss of a mother.
   Mrs. Mott was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church. The rector of the 
parish, Rev. E. L. Ogilby, being too ill to officiate at the funeral, the 
services were conducted by Rev. Jas. H. Pressly at the family residence Sunday 
afternoon at 3 o’clock and the remains were interred at Oakwood.
