  Mrs. Lillie Hollar Yates Wilkes, 83, of Stanley died Wednesday March 8, 
2006 at her residence following a long illness due to cancer.
  Born May 1, 1922 in Statesville, she was a daughter of the late David S. 
and Mary White Hollar. She attended college at night from 1959 to 1976 at 
the University of Maryland, College Park Maryland and the Virginia 
Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va., receiving her BS degree in 
accounting in 1976. In 1977 she retired from her job as a systems accountant 
at the Federal Logistics Agency in Alexandria, Va.
  Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at Salem United 
Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Heermans officiating. Burial was at Oakwood 
Cemetery in Statesville.
  Survivors are her grandchildren, Katherine Yates Gadway and husband 
Jeffery of Springfield, Va. and David Stephen Yates, Jr. and wife, Megan of 
Stanley; six great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Nancy Yates of 
Mechanicsville, Va., step-sons, Michael Bryant Wilkes and wife Barbara of 
Stanley and Donald Roger Wilkes and wife Marilyn of Iron Station, six step-
grandchildren and a very dear friend, Yvonne Stroupe of Lowell.
  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, David 
Stephen Yates, CDR USN, husbands, David Daniel Yates, James Lewis Ayers, and 
James Bryant Wilkes, three brothers, one sister and step-daughter, Rebecca 
Wilkes.
  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, P.O. Box 822, 
Statesville, N.C. 28677.
