MATTERS OF NEWS.
Secret Marriage at Mt. Mourne  ---  Miss Whitlow and Mr. Mott Wed.
Mooresville Enterprise.
   A marriage of more than passing local interest occurred at Mt. Mourne about 
three weeks ago and just came to light a day or so ago. The contracting 
parties were Miss Janie Whitlow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Whitlow, and 
Mr. Henry Mott, son of Dr. Walter Mott, all of Mt. Mourne. There seems to have 
been parental objection to the match. The young couple met by agreement one 
Sunday afternoon about three weeks in a field near Mt. Mourne, where Squire 
Davidson with a couple of witnesses awaited them. Miss Whitlow attended church 
at Fairview on the Sunday morning mentioned and before services were over left 
the building and went to the field which had been previously selected as the 
meeting place, and there in the open field with two or three witnesses the 
young couple were united in marriage. Both parties to the contract returned to 
their respective homes and no one knew of the relations until a day or so ago, 
when the matter leaked out.
