Vol. 1 pg. 240 In the name of God Amen I William Watts of Iredell County & State of North Carolina being through the abundant mercy and goodness of God though weak in body though yet of A sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my Last Will and Testament and desire it may be received by all as such - First I bequeath my soul to he that gave it and my body to the earth as to my burial I devise it may be decent at the discretion of my dear Wife and my executors who I doubt not will manage it with all requisite prudence as to my worldly estate I will and positively order that all my debts be paid. First I give and bequeath to my dear and loving Wife the whole management of house furniture and plantation with all the profits rising from the same Together with as much of the stock viz horses and Cattle hogs and sheep during her Widowhood to superintend and manage to the best advantage for the Use of all my Children and that she and the other executors hereafter mentioned dis to act in conjunction for the good of the whole of the legatees and when my loving son Thomas comes to mature age he is have the full half of the Plantation I now live on together with all necessary plantation tools Viz. ploughs harrows Waggon hoes horse geers Etc. that is now then in or belonging to the plantation Viz. When the sd. Thomas comes of mature age and the whole of my plantation at my Wifes marriage or decease to devolve to the said Thomas but of the sd. Thomas or any of the rest of my Children should die under age then Quoto(?) to be equally divided amongst the residue. I give to my loving Wife the negro wench known by the name of Dinah and her first born child Elley during her widowhood or death as also negro Hercules to be kept likewise on the plantation during her widowhood likewise for the good of the whole of the legatees. I give and bequeath to my son John his smith tools as also his horse & saddle Etc. And I give to my loving son William fifty pounds lawful money of the first that is collected of outstanding debts and inclusive of any accounts he can or may bring hereafter it is also my will and pleasure that after my Thomas comes of age that my wife and any of my daughters who might choose to live unmarried shall have the full use and benefit of the back sheds without the control of any person as also the furrage of a cow and one acre of good ground for flax to each - it is also my will that all of my unmarried daughters be put on an equal footing in cash or value of those of them that is married and then the remainder to be equally divided at the discretion of my executors and that my sons William and John is to have A two fold dividend as also my son James the same and if wife should incline to marry she is get A Childs part and that part to be at her own disposal marry or not and that at her marriage of disease the whole of my unbeqeauthed (stain) property to be divided as A above directed I also constitute my loving wife, my son James and my nephew William Watts my executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 11th day of October in the year of our lord 1789.
